Aero Correlation Engineer

About the role

The Correlation Team, within the CFD Group and alongside the Methodology team, works on the agreement between aerodynamic predictions from CFD tools and wind tunnel (WT) tests and real-world performance. The position is open to candidates of all seniority levels, from junior to senior, and is based at Audi Motorsport AG in Hinwil (Switzerland) or Bicester (UK).

Key responsibilities

• Work closely with CFD methodology, Aero Performance and Aero Development groups to increase the confidence of the CFD tools driving aerodynamic development.
• Help understand the limitations of current CFD models and validate new methodological improvements.
• Contribute to overall CFD process improvement and to better analysis tools used by the correlation group.

Required profile

• MSc or PhD in Mathematics, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or a related field, with a strong focus on computational fluid dynamics.
• At least 3 years of professional experience in race car aerodynamics development or performance evaluation, including CFD methods.
• Previous experience in a similar role within an F1 team is an advantage.
• Ownership, accountability and a strong commitment to delivery, with close collaboration across the CFD Group and wider Aerodynamics organisation.

Required skills

• Good knowledge of CFD methods and CFD software, especially OpenFOAM.
• Knowledge of high-Reynolds flow physics and turbulence modelling.
• Knowledge of wind tunnel testing and data acquisition techniques.
• Familiarity with Python and Linux; familiarity with CAD software (CATIA V6/3DEXPERIENCE) is an advantage.
• General knowledge of optimisation techniques, data science, machine learning and artificial intelligence.
