CFD Methodology Engineer

About the role

The CFD Methodology Team develops, validates and continuously improves the CFD simulation methods used across the aerodynamic development process, providing the technical foundation for accurate, reliable and efficient aerodynamic predictions. The position is open to candidates of all seniority levels, from junior to senior, and is based at Audi Motorsport AG in Hinwil (Switzerland) or Bicester (UK).

Key responsibilities

• Contribute to overall CFD process improvement.
• Work on CFD physical modelling to increase the accuracy of predictions.
• Improve the CFD workflow to reduce solution time.
• Work closely with external software providers on specific development projects.
• Develop innovative CFD techniques, such as GPU solvers or machine learning.
• Stay up to date with the latest CFD advancements.

Required profile

• MSc or PhD in Mathematics, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or a related field, with a strong focus on computational fluid dynamics.
• At least 3 years of professional experience working with CFD methods.
• Experience in parallel computing and high-performance computing (HPC).
• Familiarity with developing software in Linux environments.
• Strong programming skills, software release, update and deployment techniques, and general knowledge of optimisation, data science, machine learning and artificial intelligence.
• Ownership, accountability and a commitment to delivery, with close collaboration across the CFD Group and the wider Aerodynamics organisation.

Required skills

• Deep knowledge of CFD method development in OpenFOAM.
• Knowledge of high-Reynolds flow physics and turbulence modelling.
• C++ and Python programming.
