Commercial & IP Legal Counsel – Remote

About the role

SUSE is seeking a Commercial & IP Legal Counsel to join its global legal team. Working remotely, you will support the business across sales, product, and engineering, with a primary focus on the DACH market and open‑source software licensing.

Key responsibilities

• Draft, negotiate and advise on a wide range of commercial agreements with customers, suppliers and strategic partners.
• Support legal‑team initiatives aimed at streamlining global operations.
• Review software packages for open‑source license compliance before release.
• Translate complex engineering requirements into precise legal terms and explain the impact of licensing concepts such as copyleft.
• Monitor the evolving legal and regulatory landscape of open‑source software, including cybersecurity requirements.

Required profile

• Legal background with experience in commercial contracts and open‑source licensing.
• Ability to work independently and act as the primary internal contact for open‑source compliance.
• Fluency in German and English to engage with DACH‑region stakeholders.
• Strong stakeholder‑management skills and willingness to work on the front lines of the business.
