External Professional Expert, CERN Pension Fund Investment Committee

About the role

The CERN Pension Fund is a capitalised defined benefit scheme providing pensions and benefits to CERN and ESO employees, former employees and their families, with assets of around CHF 5 billion and 3,300 beneficiaries. Its Investment Committee (IC) advises the Pension Fund Governing Board on investment principles, performance and risk tolerance. The IC must have at least four members, including two external professional experts appointed by the Governing Board; the post is open for one member, effective from 13 May 2027.

Key responsibilities

• Make proposals to the Governing Board on the Fund's Statement of Investment Principles
• Review the Fund's investment performance
• Monitor the Fund's risk tolerance
• Attend four meetings per year, including a joint meeting with the Governing Board; additional meetings or conference calls may be scheduled
• Act in the best interests of the Fund and follow the CERN Code of Conduct

Required profile

• Deep and extensive experience overseeing asset management of large pension funds or similar long-term institutional investors (endowments, foundations, sovereign wealth funds)
• Academic and/or professional qualifications and practitioner experience in long-term asset studies, portfolio construction, investment risk management, equities, fixed income, real estate, private equity, hedge funds and other asset classes such as infrastructure, timber, farmland and commodities
