Founding Research Engineer

About the role

KIIO is developing interpretable diagnostic technology for chemical and process manufacturing. As a Founding Research Engineer you will bridge cutting‑edge research and a robust industrial product, working on machine learning, dynamical systems, and fault diagnosis using real plant sensor data.

Key responsibilities

• Model complex, partially observed industrial dynamical systems.
• Detect subtle process deviations under varying operating conditions.
• Localise faults, estimate severity, and distinguish sensor, actuator, and process‑related issues.
• Reason about fault propagation through interconnected processes and control loops.
• Build reliable evaluation and deployment pipelines for real‑world industrial data.

Required profile

• Master's or PhD in Machine Learning, Computer Science, Control, Signal Processing, Applied Mathematics, Physics, Mechanical/Chemical Engineering, or a related quantitative field.
• Strong mathematical and algorithmic reasoning with ability to formalise ambiguous real‑world problems.
• Experience developing and evaluating ML or data‑driven methods on real datasets.
• Comfortable working independently in a small, fast‑moving team and collaborating with process engineers.
• Fluent written and spoken English.
