Mechanical Ground Support Equipment Engineer

About the role

We are seeking a Mechanical Ground Support Equipment (MGSE) Engineer to design, validate, and support mechanical equipment used for handling, integration, and testing of spacecraft. The role covers the full MGSE lifecycle, from specification and design through manufacturing, testing and on‑site operational support during critical integration campaigns.

Key responsibilities

• Define specifications for MGSE such as lifting devices, transport cradles, integration supports and cleanroom‑specific tooling.
• Create preliminary CAD models and perform mechanical calculations for strength, stiffness and tolerances.
• Dimension equipment according to ESA and ECSS space standards and conduct FEM‑based structural and stress analyses.
• Verify mechanical interfaces, prepare technical justification files and review manufacturing drawings.
• Supervise fabrication activities, conduct quality inspections and load tests, and perform functional verification in cleanroom environments.
• Provide on‑site support during spacecraft integration campaigns, overseeing lifting, rotation and transport operations.
• Write handling, safety and operational procedures and ensure compliance with applicable space standards.
• Participate in technical reviews (PDR, CDR, TRR) and collaborate with satellite system engineers, AIT teams, quality, safety and suppliers.

Required profile

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
• Experience in mechanical design and structural analysis.
• Knowledge of mechanical calculations and FEM.
• Familiarity with aerospace or space environments is a strong advantage.
• Comfortable working on‑site, including cleanroom environments.
• Strong awareness of safety, quality and documentation requirements.
