Assistant Legal Officer (TJO)

About the role

The Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) in Geneva is seeking an Assistant Legal Officer (TJO) to support its Programme Support and Management Services. Reporting to a P‑4 Legal Officer, you will contribute to legal research, document review, and the preparation of legal analyses that underpin the organisation's human‑rights mandate.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct legal research on assigned topics, compile and analyse information, and draft concise summaries for internal review.
• Assist Legal Officers in reviewing legal documents, identifying relevant issues, inconsistencies, and precedents.
• Prepare drafts of background papers, studies, reports, and legal memoranda covering staff regulations, administrative issuances, and UN internal justice jurisprudence.
• Support the organisation and review of factual and legal material related to cases, including evidentiary documents.
• Draft administrative correspondence, case summaries, and procedural documentation.
• Provide legal advice on human‑resources matters and review administrative decisions for policy compliance.
• Collect and visualise data to identify trends, producing charts, tables, and reports for decision‑making.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Required profile

• University degree in law or a related field.
• Strong knowledge of legal principles, research methods, and UN internal justice system.
• Ability to interpret legislative instruments and draft clear legal documents under pressure.
• Professionalism, attention to detail, and capacity to meet tight deadlines.
