Automation & Electrical Systems Engineer

About the role

Windworks is developing actively controlled vertical-axis wind turbines for clean, local energy production. As an Automation and Electrical Systems Engineer you will define, integrate and validate the turbine’s electrical architecture, ensuring reliable performance in harsh outdoor conditions. You will work closely with a small multidisciplinary team and see your concepts move quickly from design to field testing.

Key responsibilities

• Design, prototype and validate the complete electrical system, including sensors, motors, generators, drivers, AC/AC and AC/DC converters, inverters and rectifiers.
• Implement PLC‑based automation (Beckhoff, Siemens) and EtherCAT networks, integrating sensors and actuators via CAN, Modbus or EtherCAT.
• Dimension and select motors for blade actuation and auxiliary systems, define drive architecture and develop motor control strategies (position, speed, torque).
• Provide grounding, surge and lightning protection, and ensure compliance with IEC 61400 and CE requirements.
• Develop telemetry, data acquisition and remote monitoring solutions.
• Manage grid‑connection aspects such as anti‑islanding, synchronization, relays and protection, and size HV/MV components.
• Produce structured technical documentation throughout the development cycle.

Required profile

• Approximately 5 years of experience in electrical architecture and industrial automation.
• Proven background in motor sizing, generator integration and low‑voltage PCB design.
• Strong understanding of signal acquisition, processing and safety standards.
• Ability to work autonomously in a fast‑paced, multidisciplinary environment.
