Automation Project Lead Engineer

About the role

As a Project Lead Engineer at ABB, you will plan, coordinate and execute medium‑complex Distributed Control System (DCS) projects for the energy industry, ensuring technical excellence and on‑time delivery.

Key responsibilities

• Fulfill contractual obligations for medium to high complexity automation/DCS projects, covering scope, technical requirements and delivery timelines.
• Lead, coach and support project engineers, manage operation centre engineering and external suppliers.
• Collaborate closely with customers to shape solutions, gather feedback and drive continuous improvement.
• Develop and review standard processes, tools and techniques while ensuring compliance with safety regulations and contractual requirements.
• Assist project managers with scope control, risk assessments and provide technical details, cost calculations and deliverable definitions for sales proposals.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in electrical, mechanical or related engineering.
• 3‑5 years of engineering and commissioning experience on large‑scale process automation projects.
• Strong interpersonal skills to negotiate and reach agreements with customers and suppliers.
• Professional, collaborative approach with solid written and spoken communication in German and English.

Required skills

• In‑depth knowledge of ABB 800xA / 800M DCS platforms.
• Experience with SCADA and control system technologies.
• Understanding of functional safety requirements for system, software and hardware design.
