Senior Power Electronics Engineer for Traction Projects

About the role

ABB is seeking a Senior Power Electronics Engineer to lead the design and integration of traction power electronics and energy storage systems for rail vehicles. You will work with global engineering, production, R&D and project management teams to deliver high‑quality, innovative solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Design traction power electronics converters and energy storage systems, ensuring compliance with customer requirements, industry standards and internal specifications.
• Lead specification, execution, analysis and documentation of type and qualification tests.
• Take technical responsibility for assigned project work packages and provide guidance to peers.
• Drive efficient project execution through planning, stakeholder coordination and quality‑focused communication.
• Contribute to product family standardisation and continuous improvement of traction converters and ESS integration.

Required profile

• Qualified Electrical Engineer with >5 years of experience in power electronics for customer projects.
• Proactive problem‑solver with strong ownership of tasks and deliverables.
• Continuous‑learning mindset, eager to expand technical expertise and share knowledge.
• Fluent in English (written and spoken); conversational German is a strong advantage.
• Willingness to travel occasionally for project support.
