About the role

The Economic Affairs Officer (TJO) will support the Energy, Housing and Land Management Division of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe in Geneva. Working under the Chief of Section, the incumbent will contribute to analysis and technical cooperation projects focused on sustainable energy and regional electricity connectivity, particularly in Central Asia.

Key responsibilities

  • Draft inputs for technical papers and analytical studies on renewable energy, cleaner electricity systems, and energy connectivity.
  • Develop qualitative information and analyse regional energy cooperation frameworks, interconnection projects, and infrastructure gaps.
  • Monitor and assess implementation of technical cooperation programmes, including extrabudgetary projects on Energy Connectivity and Water‑Energy Nexus in Central Asia.
  • Participate in international, regional and national meetings, and organise expert group meetings, seminars and training sessions.
  • Prepare speeches, presentations and documentation for senior staff and project approvals.
  • Perform administrative tasks and undertake on‑the‑job training as required.

Required profile

  • Strong background in economic theory and its application to sustainable development and energy sectors.
  • Experience conducting independent research, data analysis and policy evaluation.
  • Familiarity with regional energy markets, regulatory frameworks and interconnection issues.
  • Ability to work in a multicultural, international environment and represent the organization at meetings.
