About the role

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is seeking a consultant to support the Chemicals and Health Branch in implementing ICCM Resolution V/9. The focus will be on developing, piloting, and operationalising the global environmental burden high‑level indicator (HLI) to ensure scientific robustness and policy relevance.

Key responsibilities

  • Develop and test the methodology for the global environmental burden HLI.
  • Compile, analyse and validate data sets required for the indicator.
  • Pilot the HLI in selected contexts and document results.
  • Prepare technical reports and recommendations for the International Conference of the Global Framework on Chemicals.
  • Coordinate technical processes and engage with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Support related workstreams within the Global Framework on Chemicals measurability structure.

Required profile

  • Advanced degree in environmental science, chemistry, waste management or a related field.
  • Proven experience in indicator development, data analysis and policy‑oriented research.
  • Ability to work remotely and deliver results within a six‑month full‑time assignment.
  • Strong communication and coordination skills for multi‑stakeholder engagement.
  • Familiarity with UNEP frameworks and global chemicals governance is an advantage.
