Functional Safety Engineer – Fuel Cell Systems

About the role

EH Group Engineering is developing compact, high‑power‑density fuel cells for heavy‑duty mobility and stationary power. The Functional Safety Engineer will embed safety into these fuel‑cell systems, leading hazard analysis and safety engineering across hardware, software and controls to ensure compliance and certification.

Key responsibilities

• Own the functional safety lifecycle from concept through release, including safety case preparation.
• Lead hazard and risk analyses (HARA, HAZOP, FMEA/FMEDA, FTA) and define safety goals.
• Derive safety requirements, allocate them across hardware, embedded software and control systems, and verify safety mechanisms and diagnostics.
• Perform safety calculations (SIL/PL/ASIL determination, PFH/PFD) and compile documentation for certification bodies.
• Interface with notified bodies, certification authorities and customers on safety topics.

Required profile

• BSc/MSc in electrical, electronic, mechatronic, control or safety engineering.
• 3‑5 years of functional safety experience in industrial, energy or hydrogen systems.
• Strong knowledge of safety standards such as IEC 61508, ISO 13849, ISO 26262 and/or IEC 62061.
• Hands‑on experience with HARA, FMEA/FMEDA, FTA and safety requirements engineering.
• Excellent spoken and written English; French or German a plus.
