Human Resources Assistant (Temporary)

About the role

The Human Resources Assistant will work in the Human Resources Management Section of UNCTAD’s Programme Support Management Services. Reporting to the Chief of Section, the role supports recruitment, classification, and general HR administration for a diverse range of staff categories.

Key responsibilities

• Participate in candidate selection, screen applications, prepare candidate profiles and assist with interview preparation.
• Create and manage job openings in the UN recruitment system (Inspira) and oversee related documentation.
• Coordinate candidate assessments, analyse results and maintain tracking files for all vacancies.
• Liaise with divisions and UN HR service providers on contracts, entitlements, visa matters and staff re‑appointments.
• Review and process classification requests and provide guidance on classification procedures.
• Maintain HR databases, generate periodic statistical reports and conduct research on HR policies.
• Prepare and proofread HR correspondence, manage electronic and paper records, and monitor deadlines.
• Train and supervise junior staff and cover duties of the HR Officer when absent.

Required profile

• Strong knowledge of human resources policies, procedures and UN staff rules.
• Ability to interpret and apply HR regulations in an organizational setting.
• Excellent analytical and research skills for policy and precedent reviews.
• Effective communication skills for drafting correspondence and providing advice.

Required skills

• Proficiency with the UN recruitment system (Inspira).
