Human Rights Intern – Europe and Central Asia Section

About the role

The Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) is seeking a motivated intern to support its Europe and Central Asia Section. The internship runs from 15 July to 15 September and offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the UN's human‑rights mandate while gaining practical experience in an international environment.

Key responsibilities

• Compile and analyse basic information and documents related to OHCHR programmes and mandates.
• Assist Desk Officers in maintaining contacts with UN Country Teams, NGOs, NHRIs and OHCHR field offices.
• Support coordination of missions for special rapporteurs, experts and working groups.
• Contribute to activities linked to the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) and follow‑up processes.
• Help prepare background material for technical papers, speeches and reports.
• Assist in organising meetings, seminars and official missions.

Required profile

• Enrolled in or recently completed a graduate programme, or in the final year of a bachelor’s degree.
• Academic background in international relations, international human‑rights law, political science or related fields.
• Fluency in English or French; knowledge of the other language is an asset.
• Interest in human‑rights issues and UN processes.
