Human Rights Intern

About the role

The Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) is seeking motivated interns to support the Human Rights Treaties Branch in Geneva. Interns will contribute to the work of treaty bodies, capacity‑building programmes and related Funds, gaining exposure to international human‑rights mechanisms.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in preparing country and legal analyses and drafting background papers for treaty‑body reporting and individual complaints procedures.
• Conduct research on treaty‑body jurisprudence and draft summary reports.
• Support the organization of meetings, working groups and Board of Trustees sessions, including logistical and documentation tasks.
• Provide administrative assistance to the Secretariat of the Human Rights Treaties Branch.

Required profile

• Current enrolment in or recent graduation from a university programme in law, international relations, political science or a related field.
• Strong interest in international human‑rights law and UN mechanisms.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills in English.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a diverse team.
