Intern – Intergovernmental Working Group on Human Rights of Older Persons

About the role

The Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights is seeking a motivated intern to support the Intergovernmental Working Group on the Human Rights of Older Persons (IGWG HROP). The internship will provide exposure to international human‑rights processes and the drafting of a potential legally binding instrument.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare procedural notes, talking points and briefing materials for IGWG meetings.
• Attend meetings, take minutes and produce concise summaries.
• Assist with meeting logistics, including virtual connections, speaker lists and interactive presentations.
• Conduct historical and precedent research, as well as media‑based analysis.
• Compile statistics and design charts, tables and graphs.
• Maintain and update meeting databases and the group’s website.
• Support the drafting and formatting of documents related to the draft instrument.

Required profile

• Enrolled in or recently completed a graduate programme, or in the final year of a bachelor’s degree.
• Strong interest in human‑rights issues and commitment to UN values.
• Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds.
• Good academic record, volunteer or extracurricular experience in relevant fields.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft 365 applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
