Legal Counsel

About the role

The Open Home Foundation seeks a Legal Counsel based in Switzerland to lead its legal function. You will ensure that the foundation’s open-source projects, commercial agreements and governance structures are legally sound and protected.

Key responsibilities

• Own and develop the foundation’s legal function, advising leadership on intellectual property, contracts, governance, employment and compliance.
• Provide counsel on open-source licensing, contributor agreements and trademark protection for Home Assistant and related projects.
• Coordinate defence against patent and other legal claims, working with external litigation counsel as needed.
• Draft, review and negotiate commercial agreements including sponsorships, partnerships, vendor contracts, NDAs and event agreements.
• Manage external counsel for international and cross-border matters.
• Advise on Swiss foundation (Stiftung) law, governance and statutory obligations.
• Create reusable templates, policies and processes and maintain relationships with legal specialists.

Required profile

• 3-5 years of post-qualification legal experience, preferably a mix of in-house and private practice.
• Swiss legal qualification with strong knowledge of Swiss law and Stiftung regulations.
• Experience in intellectual property, commercial contracts and non-profit governance.
• Professional fluency in English and proficiency in German for Swiss legal work.
• Current Swiss residency and eligibility to work in Switzerland.
