Mechanical Technician – High‑Temp Superconducting Magnets

About the role
CERN is developing high‑temperature superconducting magnet technology for future accelerator applications. As a Mechanical Technician you will work on the design, manufacture and assembly of superconducting coils, prototypes and related tooling within this R&D programme.
Key responsibilities
- Produce high‑temperature superconductor‑based magnet coils and assemble prototypes.
- Manufacture and modify mechanical parts using conventional machining techniques such as milling, turning and forming.
- Manage component stocks, initiate manufacturing requests, handle purchase orders and perform acceptance tests.
- Prepare production and quality‑control documentation, including procedures, test reports and component traceability.
- Create 2D CAD drawings and 3D models of components and tooling, starting from 3D designs.
Required profile
- Technical certificate or equivalent secondary education with relevant experience in mechanical engineering.
- Hands‑on experience in mechanical manufacturing and assembly of electromechanical equipment, including conventional machining.
Required skills
- Milling, turning and forming (conventional machining).
- Mechanical CAD using CATIA (or similar).
- Reading and interpreting mechanical drawings (ISO‑GPS dimensioning and tolerancing).
- Preparation of quality documentation and component traceability.
