Principal Scientist – Application Technology

About the role

We are looking for a Principal Scientist – Application Technology to lead the development and implementation of advanced application technologies for Syngenta products in Muenchwilen, Switzerland. You will own end‑to‑end product testing, ensure compatibility across diverse application equipment, and translate customer needs into technical solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Define and execute fit‑for‑use testing from design specification through data analysis and communication.
• Develop risk‑based test plans, acceptance criteria and evidence requirements for each product development phase.
• Identify application risks and compatibility issues early and drive corrective actions.
• Collaborate across PT&E, CPRD and commercial functions to deliver differentiated product outcomes.
• Drive innovation through automation, data capture, digital tools and new testing capabilities.
• Maintain laboratory and field operations, coordinating equipment maintenance and upgrades.

Required profile

• University degree in agronomy, biology, agricultural engineering or related field; MSc/PhD preferred.
• Strong knowledge of crop‑protection application technologies, agronomy and product‑use practices.
• Proven ability to define test strategies, interpret technical data and provide clear recommendations.
• Excellent project‑management, analytical and communication skills.
• Independent work style with ability to manage competing priorities.
• Fluent in English; German is a plus.
