Process Chemist 80-100% (m/f/d)

About the role

Lonza is looking for a Process Chemist to join its Process Development Team for Small Molecules within the Advanced Synthesis Platform in Visp, Switzerland. The role plays a key part in developing and implementing manufacturing processes for Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs), including highly potent APIs (HPAPIs). Relocation assistance is available for eligible candidates and their families.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, optimize and scale chemical manufacturing processes for small-molecule APIs and HPAPIs from early clinical development through Process Validation.
• Plan, supervise and evaluate laboratory experiments, ensuring high scientific standards, reliable data and accurate interpretation of results.
• Prepare technical reports, presentations and development documentation.
• Transfer processes to GMP manufacturing facilities and support production campaigns as a process expert.
• Identify process risks, troubleshoot technical challenges and implement robust, scalable and compliant solutions.
• Work closely with cross-functional project teams and external customers on goals, timelines and deliverables.
• Lead, coach and develop laboratory professionals and drive continuous improvement.

Required profile

• Ph.D. in Chemistry.
• Industrial experience in chemical process development; experience transferring processes to GMP manufacturing is highly preferred.
• Knowledge of GMP requirements and experience in a regulated environment is advantageous.
• Fluent written and spoken English; German language skills or willingness to learn German are required.
• Experience leading or mentoring scientific professionals in an industrial setting is an advantage.
