Public Information Officer – Social Media & Multimedia

About the role
The Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) is seeking a dynamic Public Information Officer to lead the creation and dissemination of multimedia content across its social media channels. Based in Geneva, you will report to the Chief of the Media Outreach and Spokesperson’s Office and play a key part in amplifying human‑rights messages worldwide.
Key responsibilities
- Develop and produce high‑impact multimedia content for OHCHR’s social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Google+ and others).
- Exercise journalistic and political judgment to make timely editorial decisions on what to publish.
- Plan and launch strategic social‑media campaigns in coordination with UN‑wide outreach efforts.
- Build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders to enrich content and expand reach.
- Increase follower numbers, engagement rates and overall brand awareness.
- Monitor, analyse and report on the impact of social‑media content, including social listening and trend identification.
- Provide guidance, training and technical expertise to colleagues on effective social‑media use.
- Represent OHCHR in UN social‑media groups and liaise with focal points across the system.
Required profile
- Strong journalistic sense with the ability to assess political sensitivities.
- Proven experience in strategic communication and social‑media outreach.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders and senior officials.
- Analytical mindset for monitoring trends and evaluating content performance.
Required skills
- Hands‑on experience with major social‑media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Google+).
- Multimedia content creation (video, graphics, audio) for digital channels.
- Social‑listening and analytics tools to track engagement and sentiment.
