R&D Senior Hardware Engineer (UPS Products)

About the role

ABB is looking for an R&D Senior Hardware Engineer (80-100% time, hybrid work) to join its Electrification business, working on UPS product lines. The position reports to the Chapter Lead and is based in Quartino, Ticino, Switzerland.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out complex technology and engineering assignments, applying applicable processes, standards, guidelines and requirements, including architectural and design constraints.
• Define technical specifications, perform circuit simulations and develop projects requiring expertise in analog, digital and power systems.
• Lead design optimisation, identifying advanced technical, architectural and circuitry solutions to maximise mechanical, electrical and PCBA integration with cross-functional product development teams.
• Develop and maintain technical documentation for systems, components and interfaces.

Required profile

• Master's degree in Electrical or Electronics Engineering.
• More than 5 years of experience with electrical systems and complex power electronic systems.
• Proven experience in digital and analog circuit design and simulation, and in EMI design, mitigation and troubleshooting.
• Strong knowledge of environmental, reliability and safety requirements for industrial products.
• Familiarity with product regulations and industry standards, including IEC and UL.
• Experience leading failure investigations and root cause analysis (RCA).
• Excellent command of English, written and spoken.
