Remote Tax Law Expert (Freelance)

About the role

Turing is seeking experienced U.S. tax law professionals to help fine‑tune advanced AI models. As a remote freelance Tax Law Expert, you will evaluate AI‑generated responses to complex tax scenarios, ensuring accuracy and compliance with federal and international tax provisions.

Key responsibilities

• Review AI‑generated answers to tax hypotheticals covering individual, corporate, partnership, and international tax issues.
• Apply a structured legal rubric to assess issue spotting, correct code citations, and proper use of Treasury Regulations and IRS guidance.
• Identify gaps in AI reasoning related to basis calculations, gain recognition, tax credits, transfer pricing, and tax‑exempt organization rules.
• Provide detailed annotations and written feedback to improve model performance.
• Collaborate with researchers and project managers to align evaluation standards and project goals.

Required profile

• J.D. from an accredited U.S. law school; bar admission (active or inactive).
• 3+ years of practice in U.S. tax law, tax planning, or tax controversy.
• Strong analytical skills across the Internal Revenue Code, Treasury Regulations, and state/local tax frameworks.
• Excellent written communication and meticulous attention to detail.
• High ethical standards; interest in AI is a plus.
