Senior Java Developer – Distributed Financial Systems

About the role

Julius Baer is looking for a senior backend engineer to design, build and operate mission‑critical financial systems. You will work on a strategic new channel that integrates investment capabilities into the bank’s e‑banking platform.

Key responsibilities

• Design and evolve robust distributed systems, balancing scalability, latency, consistency and fault tolerance.
• Develop high‑performance backend services and APIs using Java, Spring and Spring Boot.
• Optimize end‑to‑end latency, asynchronous processing and efficient I/O.
• Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks through profiling, benchmarking and load testing.
• Integrate complex financial platforms and third‑party services while ensuring data integrity and operational resilience.

Required profile

• Strong experience with Java (Core, Collections, JSON, JDBC) and Spring Framework.
• Deep knowledge of distributed systems, micro‑services, event‑driven design and low‑latency architectures.
• Proficiency in Unix/Linux environments, bash scripting and security concepts such as OAuth2 and API security.
• Experience with cloud platforms (preferably Microsoft Azure) and containerisation (Docker, Kubernetes).
• Ability to work collaboratively in a global, agile team across Zurich and Singapore.
