Senior System Architect – ML & AI

About the role

Julius Baer is looking for a Senior System Architect to lead the design and delivery of enterprise AI and ML solutions within its global IT Architecture team. You will shape end‑to‑end system architectures, ensure scalability, security and reusability, and support high‑quality delivery across multiple teams.

Key responsibilities

• Design and own the solution architecture for AI platform components and related applications.
• Ensure architectures adhere to standards and align with domain target architectures.
• Document architecture decisions as ADRs and obtain board approvals.
• Coach software engineers on implementation and technical feasibility.
• Drive hands‑on design for AI/ML solutions, balancing consistency with delivery needs.
• Support key initiatives such as the AI automation orchestration layer by translating high‑level designs into concrete solutions.
• Identify and proactively address architectural risks, dependencies and technical debt.
• Contribute architectural input during PI planning, backlog refinement and roadmap discussions.

Required profile

• At least 3 years as a Senior Architect in complex IT environments.
• Minimum 5 years as a Lead or Senior Software Engineer with hands‑on AI/ML experience.
• Proven ability to design, implement and operate AI/ML solutions at enterprise scale.
• Strong communication skills to explain architectural topics to technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a comparable field; certifications (e.g., SAFe, cloud, AI/ML) are a plus.
• Business‑fluent English.
