Senior System Engineer – Virtualization (Remote)

About the role

This senior infrastructure position focuses on virtualization technologies and supports large‑scale, globally distributed systems used by millions of users. The role is fully remote within Switzerland and involves designing, operating, and continuously improving enterprise‑grade VMware and Microsoft Hyper‑V environments.

Key responsibilities

• Design, deploy, administer and optimise VMware (ESXi, vCenter) and Microsoft Hyper‑V platforms.
• Manage Hyper‑Converged Infrastructure (vSAN) and traditional SAN‑based storage, ensuring high availability and performance.
• Lead lifecycle activities such as upgrades, patching, migrations and hybrid/cloud integration.
• Monitor system performance, conduct capacity planning and apply reliability engineering practices.
• Collaborate with SRE, DevOps, networking and support teams to resolve production incidents and perform root‑cause analysis.
• Oversee storage, backup and disaster‑recovery solutions following enterprise best practices.
• Develop automation scripts and tools to reduce manual effort.
• Maintain accurate technical documentation and improve operational procedures.

Required profile

• Strong hands‑on expertise with VMware virtualization technologies at enterprise scale.
• Proven experience with VMware vSAN deployment, administration and lifecycle management.
• Solid background with Microsoft Hyper‑V and System Center Virtual Machine Manager.
• Deep understanding of virtual networking, SAN storage and enterprise storage architectures.
• Proficiency in automation and scripting using PowerShell, PowerCLI, Python or Bash.
