Software Engineer - Java Backend

About the role

Swissquote, Switzerland's leading digital bank, is looking for a Software Engineer who combines strong software engineering skills with a product mindset. The team builds and maintains the APIs, platforms and financial services for professional and institutional partners, and its mission is to turn legacy solutions into practical, reliable in-house AI solutions. You will design, develop and deploy AI-native and non-AI-native applications, owning the full lifecycle from backend services and model integration to user experience and performance monitoring.

Key responsibilities

• Build and maintain AI and non-AI generated-code applications using coding agents such as ClaudeCode.
• Collaborate across all stages of software development, from ideation to deployment, with diverse teams.
• Contribute to technical choices, conduct code reviews and perform testing, ensuring high code quality and continuous improvement of best practices.
• Work with product owners to architect solutions and improve product functionality and user experience.
• Support the applications maintained by the team to ensure client satisfaction.
• Participate in or drive complex projects with minimal oversight, delivering features iteratively.
• Ensure solutions meet security, compliance and governance requirements in a regulated financial environment.

Required profile

• Highly motivated developer with strong problem-solving skills and product-oriented thinking.
• Fluent in English; French is an asset.
• Experience in banking, financial services or fintech is a plus.

Required skills

• Production-grade software development with strong Java and modern frameworks.
• Microservices, REST and GraphQL APIs, Docker and Kubernetes, RabbitMQ.
• Git, Linux, Jenkins, Tomcat, Oracle, PostgreSQL and Redis.
• Test-driven development (JBehave, TestNG, Selenium).
• Familiarity with event-driven architectures; hands-on experience with LLMs, prompt engineering and AI application development is strongly recommended.
