Software Engineer – Software Reliability

About the role

You will work at the interface between software and reliability engineering, designing next‑generation particle accelerator systems. The role focuses on developing and maintaining Python‑based frameworks for availability modelling, fault data analysis, and reliability‑driven design across multiple accelerator subsystems.

Key responsibilities

• Design, implement, and maintain production‑quality Python software for reliability, availability, and maintainability (RAM) analyses.
• Develop modular, well‑documented, and testable software frameworks supporting accelerator design and validation workflows.
• Research and prototype software‑oriented reliability methods, including data‑driven, simulation‑based, and verification techniques.
• Integrate reliability models with operational data sources, simulation pipelines, and system‑level workflows.
• Apply modern software engineering practices such as version control, code review, automated testing, and continuous integration.
• Collaborate with accelerator physicists, system engineers, and reliability specialists to translate requirements into robust software solutions.
• Contribute to technical documentation, internal reports, and design reviews.

Required profile

• Proven experience developing scientific or large‑scale software systems with emphasis on code quality and production readiness.
• Experience building simulation and analysis pipelines with attention to assumptions, uncertainties, and reproducibility.
• Background in applied, software‑driven research, including prototyping, validation, and transition to production code.
• Ability to derive engineering insights from complex datasets through analysis, modelling, and simulation.
• Experience working in collaborative engineering environments with clear technical communication.
