Theoretical Physicist (Limited Duration)

About the role

CERN is recruiting a theoretical physicist for a limited-duration research position in the Theoretical Physics Department (CERN-TH). Candidates enter a talent pool for future hiring based on organisational needs. The role contributes to new theoretical ideas on the fundamental constituents and forces of nature, links them to CERN's experimental programme and takes part in training programmes and scientific events.

Key responsibilities

• Make significant contributions to theoretical research in elementary particle physics
• Take part in and initiate activities in the Theoretical Physics Department, possibly with experimental physicists
• Join CERN committees and study groups
• Maintain contact with the wider scientific community

Required profile

• Demonstrated post-doctoral research leading to publications in peer-reviewed journals
• PhD or equivalent in theoretical physics or a related field
• Ability to make significant contributions to the work of the Organization
• Spoken and written English or French, with a commitment to learn the other

Required skills

• Computational and mathematical physics
• Particle physics and phenomenology
• Thorough knowledge of theoretical physics

What we offer

• Minimum net entry salary of 9,236 Swiss Francs per month, rising with experience
• 30 days paid leave plus 2 weeks annual closure

• Contract of 60 months, extendable up to 8 years, with eligibility for an indefinite contract
