R&D Senior Engineer - Power Electronics

About the role

ABB Power Protection develops and produces uninterruptible power supplies (UPS) for customers worldwide. It is looking for a senior engineer to design and develop UPS products and innovative power electronics solutions within a multi-disciplinary team of electrical, mechanical, thermal and control experts. The role is onsite in Quartino, within the Electrification Power Protection manufacturing department.

Key responsibilities

• Design and develop power converters.
• Specify components and define technical requirements with suppliers.
• Support the new-product design cycle, from simulation to validation and documentation, through design and testing.
• Conduct and coordinate complex analyses, develop recommendations based on engineering practice and business considerations.
• Support operations and after-sales during troubleshooting phases.
• Plan and coordinate complex technology and engineering activities.

Required profile

• MSc in Electrical/Electronics Engineering with a focus on Power Electronics, or a Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Electronics with equivalent work experience.
• Proven experience with power semiconductor characteristics, inductors and passive components.
• Experience with power electronic design topologies, knowledge of UPS technology and familiarity with power protection.
• Significant experience working within complex organisations.
• Willingness to travel occasionally (5%).

Required skills

• Power electronic design topologies and UPS technology.
• Simulation tools such as MATLAB/Simulink and LTspice.
• C programming.
• Good written and spoken English; other languages are an asset.
