Artwork Creation Manager – Pharmaceutical Packaging

About the role

An experienced artwork professional with a strong background in pharmaceutical packaging and GMP-regulated environments is sought to manage the creation, adaptation and finalization of artwork for printed packaging materials. Files must meet technical, quality and country-specific requirements. The role combines hands-on expertise in Adobe Illustrator and InDesign with stakeholder coordination and timely delivery of compliant artwork.

The contract starts between 4 January and 1 February 2027, lasts 12 months (extension very likely), is 100% workload and is based in Basel with up to 40% remote work on Mondays and Fridays, standard working hours.

Key responsibilities

• Create and adapt production-ready PDF artwork for printed packaging from manuscripts, annotated predecessor files and technical drawings.
• Prepare artwork for new product launches and line extensions, including folding boxes, foils, labels and leaflets.
• Create and edit graphical templates and die cuts, and maintain tables, graphic standards and supporting documentation.
• Act as central contact for external artwork service providers, affiliates, internal packaging sites and manufacturing partners, and upload/manage files in the PDF library and content sheets in WebCenter.
• Create and document text macros in the text database and scripts in Chili; finalize files and give print-ready data to print suppliers.
• Complete GMP checklists, archive artwork documentation and maintain country-specific requirements and specifications.
• Support complaint management, quality management system events and regular performance reviews with external partners.
• Proofread printed packaging materials, verify quality requirements, monitor standards and review text content and proofs.

Required profile

• Degree or professional qualification as a Digital and Print Media Designer, Graphic Designer or comparable field.
• At least 5 years of relevant experience, ideally in the pharmaceutical industry, pharmaceutical packaging or a specialized artwork service provider.
• Practical experience in a GMP-regulated environment and in labeling and artwork management.
• Fluent English, written and spoken; German is a nice-to-have.

Required skills

• Expert-level Adobe Illustrator and Adobe InDesign.
• Creation and adaptation of print-ready PDFs for pharmaceutical packaging.
• Artwork verification tools such as GlobalVision, TVT or Esko.
• Nice to have: Esko WebCenter, Chili, previous graphic studio or pharmaceutical packaging experience.
