About the role

The Economic Affairs Officer will support the extra‑budgetary project “Enhancing Traceability of Sustainable Value Chains in critical sectors for the green transition in the UNECE region and beyond”. Based in Geneva, the role reports to the Chief of the Competitiveness Section (P5) within the Economic Cooperation and Trade Division.

Key responsibilities

  • Monitor economic developments related to sustainable value‑chain management and identify emerging issues for UNECE.
  • Develop draft policy recommendations and information‑exchange standards for trade facilitation and sustainable value chains.
  • Represent the unit at international, regional and national meetings and prepare speeches and inputs for senior staff.
  • Provide substantive support on traceability and transparency to bodies such as UN/CEFACT and UNECE.
  • Serve as secretary to the UNECE Team of Specialists on ESG Transparency and Traceability for Sustainable Value Chains.
  • Design, manage and evaluate technical cooperation projects, including missions to member states and training seminars.
  • Collect, analyse and visualise data to identify trends and support data‑driven decision‑making.
  • Support junior staff, review their work and contribute to intra‑ and inter‑departmental initiatives.

Required profile

  • Experience in economic or sector analysis of sustainable value chains.
  • Familiarity with intergovernmental processes and trade‑facilitation standards.
  • Ability to design and manage technical cooperation projects and conduct training.
  • Strong analytical skills for data collection, trend analysis and reporting.
