Economic Affairs Officer (Technical Advisor)

About the role

The Economic Affairs Officer (Technical Advisor) will support the implementation of the "Strengthening Circular Resource Systems" project within the Resources Management Section of UNECE. Based in Geneva, the incumbent will work closely with member States, policymakers, industry, and research institutions to promote circular economy practices.

Key responsibilities

• Develop databases and qualitative information for a new methodology measuring material flows using UNFC and UNRMS.
• Apply and adapt econometric models to analyse trends that reduce virgin material demand and associated carbon emissions.
• Draft inputs for technical papers, analytical studies and policy briefs on sustainable resource management.
• Identify and analyse policy proposals related to circularity, closed‑loop flows and material efficiency.
• Participate in international, regional and national meetings to gather information and represent UNECE.
• Assist in organising expert group meetings, seminars and prepare speeches for senior staff.

Required profile

• Advanced degree in economics, environmental science, resource management or a related field.
• Experience in circular economy, resource flow analysis or sustainable development.
• Proven ability to work with diverse stakeholders including governments, industry and NGOs.
• Strong analytical and writing skills for technical and policy documents.
