Programme Management & Stakeholder Engagement Internship

About the role

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is seeking a motivated intern to support programme management and stakeholder engagement activities in its Geneva office. The six‑month placement offers hands‑on experience in preparing high‑level panel sessions and facilitating interaction with a diverse range of stakeholders.

Key responsibilities

• Assist the interim secretariat in preparatory work for the resumed first session of the Panel’s plenary.
• Maintain and update stakeholder contact lists and contribute to stakeholder mapping across governments, scientific institutions, civil society and intergovernmental organisations.
• Support outreach efforts to raise awareness of Panel processes and encourage participation.
• Coordinate communications with national focal points, observer organisations and other partners.
• Help organise consultations, webinars, side events and engagement meetings, including managing invitations, tracking attendance and following up on communications.
• Identify opportunities to broaden participation across regions and stakeholder groups.

Required profile

• Enrolled in or having completed the final year of a bachelor’s, master’s or PhD programme, or holding a graduate degree.
• Field of study closely related to environmental programme management or stakeholder engagement.
• No prior professional experience required.

Required skills

• Proficiency with MS Word, MS PowerPoint, MS Excel and MS Teams.
• Familiarity with web‑based collaboration platforms.
